MS Dhoni’s Childhood Coach Talks On Dhoni’s Retirement Plan
The question which every cricket lover has is whether Dhoni will play in the next series or will he retire. The curiosity is increasing because the former Indian skipper is silent on this subject. The wicket-keeper batsman’s childhood coach Keshav Banerjee believes that Dhoni will play but now he needs rest.
MS Dhoni has not played any match after the disheartening semifinal of the . The player was in the two-month break as he joined the Indian army and then went to America with his family to spent vacation. But the player has extended his break and made himself unavailable in the home T20I series against South Africa. Now, there are speculations that he will also not play the home T20I series against Bangladesh which is scheduled next month.
Banerjee opines that MS Dhoni needs rest because he has been playing cricket continuously.
“Dhoni has been playing relentlessly since 2004. So he deserves this sabbatical,” Banerjee told TOI. “Let him spend some time with his family,” he added.
MS Dhoni replacement has shown inconsistent performance in the team. The team management is yet to find a better replacement of the player. Meanwhile, there are reports that MS Dhoni will play the next T20 World Cup as his experience will help the team. Keshav Banerjee expressed that Dhoni might play the next year T20 World Cup and then say adieu to the cricket.
“I think he will play the World T20 next year, then take a call,” he continued.
Banerjee also advised the team management to give the chance to the deserving candidate rather than accepting Dhoni’s return. He opines that in domestic cricket, many players are deserving and they should be given chance.
“More important than Dhoni’s return is providing the young ones who have impressed in domestic cricket a chance to play for India,” said Banerjee. “We should not waste their peak by making them play only domestic matches. Bangladesh series is the ideal opportunity to test them,” he concluded.
