MS Dhoni Starts Training But Unavailable For Home Season: Report
Amidst speculations over his international future, MS Dhoni is set to sit out of the game for the rest of 2019 – he will not be selected for the upcoming series against Bangladesh and West Indies. Despite him set to miss the action, a report in The New Express has suggested that Dhoni is presently training in Jharkhand and will now be training with the U-23 team.
“He spoke to a support staff of the senior Jharkhand team but as they would be leaving for Surat to participate in the Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy T20s starting on November 8, he is likely to practise with under-23 boys at the stadium,” a souce told The New Indian Express.
The report also adds that he might be back in the squad next year. Though it is not confirmed whteher he will be back right from Sri Lanka series or will he fly to New Zealand with the team for the white-ball series.
Dhoni has been on a break since World Cup 2019. He was excted to be back for the upcoming Bangladesh series but it has been confirmed that Dhoni will not be part of squad.
In his absence, Rishabh Pant has been given chances to keep his place in the team but hs hasn’t been able to make most out of it. Rishabh is set to be retained in the squad for the series and it is confirmed that he will be given an extended run.
There are indications that Sanju Samson could also be selected in the squad for the Bangladesh series but it is unlikely that he will be named as wicketkeeper. His presence in the squad will surely put pressure on Rishabh, who has lost his place in playing XI in Tests due to the comeback of Wriddhiman Saha.
Samson, if selected, will have a chance to seal his spot in the shortest format.
A maiden call-up for Shivam Dube is also on the cards while Bhuvneshwar Kumar is also expected to return after being kept out for South Africa series.
