Pant, who has been projected as the successor to MS Dhoni, has achieved success in Test cricket but hasn't been able to replicate that in limited-overs international. While he averages 44.35 in the longest format, his average drops down to 22.9 in ODIs and 20.31 in T20Is.
While the likes of India head coach Ravi Shastri and batting coach Vikram Rathour have advised Pant to be careful with his batting, Sunil Gavaskar and Gautam Gambhir want the 21-year-old to be guided by someone rather than chiding him.
Yuvrah echoes their view.
"Somebody really needs to talk to him," Yuvraj said at en even in New Delhi on Tuesday. "MS Dhoni was not made in a day. It took a few years so it will take a few years for a replacement also. There is one year to go for the T20 World Cup so that is still a long time.
Yuvraj, who announced his retirement earlier this year, says that suppressing Pant could prove to be detrimental.
"How they (Indian team management) get the best out of Pant is completely based on his character. You have to understand his psychology and then work with that. If you are going to suppress him, you won't get the best out of him," he said. "Yes, he has been given a number of chances but how do you get the best out of him. The people monitoring him in the team -- the coaches, the captain -- can make a lot of difference.
