imgMUMBAI: Suryakumar Yadav will lead the Mumbai team in the first three matches of the Syed Mushtaq Ali T20 Trophy, which will begin from November 8 at various venues. This will be the first time the in-form batsman will captain Mumbai since he quit the top job in the 2014-15 season.

Mumbai will play their matches at the Wankhede Stadium. They take on Mizoram on November 8, Haryana on Nov. 9, Madhya Pradesh on Nov. 11, Pondicherry on Nov. 12, Bengal on Nov. 14, Meghalaya on Nov. 15 and Assam on Nov. 17.

On Monday, the selectors announced a 15-member squad for the first three games. Talented youngster Yashasvi Jaiswal, who was in blazing form in the Vijay Hazare One-Day Trophy, will miss the tournament along with left-arm spinner Atharva Ankolekar, India's hero in the Under-19 Asia Cup triumph. The duo will play in the Under-19 Challengers-the selection tournament for the Under-19 World Cup next year. Shreyas Iyer, Shivam Dube and Shardul Thakur will miss the first three games as they are part of the Indian team which is playing against Bangladesh in the ongoing T20I series. Since his ban expires on November 15, opener Prithvi Shaw may be included in the later stages of the tournament.

In a surprising move, the selectors dropped pacer Tushar Deshpande, who played for India 'A' and caught the eyes of the national selectors last season due to his decent pace. Deshpande is a very good fielder, too. The fast bowler was in poor form in the Vijay Hazare Trophy where he went for 220 runs in 25.5 overs at a run rate of 8.51, picking up just two wickets, but his pace would have been helpful on the Wankhede wicket. Deepak Shetty has been included in his place.

Similarly, the non-selection of batsmen Sujit Naik and Akarshit Gomel, who performed well in the Mumbai T20 League this year, is surprising. Batsman Sarfaraz Khan, meanwhile, returns to the team after recovering from an injury. The squad has new faces like Raunaq Sharma, Jaideep Pardeshi, Parikshit Valsangkar and Aquib Qureshi. In Ajinkya Naik, the team will have a new manager too.

Mumbai squad: Suryakumar Yadav (captain) Jay Bista, Aditya Tare, Sarfaraz Khan, Jaideep Pardeshi, Siddhesh Lad, Shubham Ranjane, Shams Mulani, Parikshit Valsangkar, Raunaq Sharma, Dhaval Kulkarni, Kruthik Hangewadi, Deepak Shetty, Aquib Qureshi, Dhrumil Matkar.
