Pakistan Cricket Board Sack Sarfaraz Ahmed As Their Skipper; Twitter Reacts
The Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) has removed Sarfaraz Ahmed from captaincy from all formats with immediate effect. Reports emerged that head coach Misbah ul Haq was not happy with Sarfaraz and expressed his concerns with PCB CEO Wasim Khan.
Talented batsman Babar Azam will take over the role in the shortest formats while veteran batsman Azhar Ali will shoulder the responsibility in red-ball cricket.
Meanwhile, Sarfaraz Ahmed has found himself under the scanner after their recent drubbing against a second-string Sri Lankan side. Despite winning the ODIs, they suffered a humiliating whitewash in the three-match T20I series.Sarfaraz Ahmed. (Credits – AFP)

This year has been a forgettable one for Pakistan as they began the year with a 5-0 drubbing against Australia. The Men in Greens Pakistan then lost an ODI series to England 4-0 before losing to Afghanistan in the World Cup warm-up game. It all reeled up when Sarfaraz Ahmed was seen yawning during a high intense India-Pakistan game during the World Cup.
It all summed after the loss against Sri Lanka as Pakistan stripped Sarfaraz from the leadership roles across formats. Speaking about the developments, the former skipper said that it was an honour for him to lead the country at the highest level. Sarfaraz Ahmed also wished luck to the new skippers.
“It has been an honour to lead Pakistan at the highest level. I want to thank all my colleagues, coaches and selectors who have helped me in this journey. My good wishes are with Azhar Ali, Babar Azam and the Pakistan cricket team, and I hope they will continue to grow stronger and stronger,” Sarfaraz said.
Social media had mixed reactions when the news broke out on. While many adjudged it as a wrong decision considering Sarfaraz Ahmed’s rich statistics, many feel this will help Pakistan cricket progress in future.

News of Sarfaraz Ahmed being removed as Captain from all formats. Test and ODI make sense but how could they remove him in T20 considering his successful stats? #Cricket#Pakistan#PCB#SarfarazAhmedpic.twitter.com/FkmMJDXwBN

Sarfaraz Ahmed's record as T20I captain
T20Is – 37
Won – 29
Lost – 8
Win% – 78.37
Sarfaraz took Pakistan to No1 in T20Is without home matches just like Misbah did in Tests, also won the ODI CT 2017. Now World's No1 T20I team will be lead by World's No1 T20I batsman Babar Azam.
