Babar emerged as the skipper of the shorter-formats after Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) sacked Sarfaraz Ahmed as their skipper. On his first assignment, Babar Azam wanted to have senior cricketers like Mohammad Hafeez and Shoaib Malik, but it is likely that PCB has denied the permission.

Before the team’s departure, it has emerged that head coach and chief selector Misbah-ul-Haq had discussed the selection of players with Babar and both agreed on the selection of Hafeez and Malik. But some of the PCB officials expressed reservations on the same. It once again raised questions about the authority of the captain and the coach.

Speaking on the same, Babar Azam agreed that he wanted some of the senior cricketers for the tough tour against Australia. However, at the same time, the prolific batsman reiterated that he respects the decision of the selectors.

“I had given my input for selection of the squad. I felt I required some seniors but it is decision of selectors,” Babar said.

Meanwhile, Babar Azam is confident of leading the side to glory. He agreed that leadership brings a lot of additional pressure, but with the support of the teammate, Babar is hopeful that he can manage it. As Pakistan are set to play Australia, he urged his players to play freely and don’t burden them with pressure.

“I have belief in myself and my batting. Captaincy is a new responsibility and I will try to take everyone along and form a combination. It is clear that If players support you the team does well. So I want everyone to perform. I I will try to keep the environment of the dressing room healthy and positive. We must enjoy playing for Pakistan and not take pressure,” he said.
