R Sridhar Feels Unfair To Compare Rishabh Pant and Wriddhiman Saha
Many believe that the 22-year-old wicketkeeper-batsman Rishabh Pant is a future of Indian cricket. In his initial period of international career, Pant impressed with his performances.
But recently he has failed to perform consistently with the bat. Due to the poor shot selections, Pant lost his wicket in inappropriate moments. In the recently concluded home Test series against South Africa, Pant wasn’t selected in the playing XI. The 32-year-old Wriddhiman Saha kept wicket in that entire home Test series.
It was the first international cricket assignment for Saha since January 2018. In that Test series, Saha hugely impressed with his wicketkeeping skills.
Meanwhile, the team management has still enough faith in Pant as he has been selected as the first-choice wicketkeeper for the upcoming home T20I series against Bangladesh.
R Sridhar feels that it is unfair to compare these two wicketkeepers as both are doing brilliantly.
Sridhar recently told TOI, “It’s unfair to compare the two as both Saha and Rishabh have their strengths. One is young, while the other is experienced. Rishabh is our future and Saha is our present and both are doing brilliantly.”
Wriddhiman Saha is our best wicketkeeper: R Sridhar
Before the home Test series against South Africa, Wriddhiman Saha was also in the Test squad during India tour West Indies in last August-September. But the team management didn’t put him in the playing XIs during the two-match Test series against the home team West Indies.
Sridhar has clarified that there were no concerns about Saha during the West Indies tour.
The fielding coach claimed, “No, there were no concerns at all. He was easing into the rigors of international cricket during the West Indies series. He had also played a few games for India ‘A’ before that.
“Once we were playing in India, we brought back Saha. He is our best wicketkeeper and his skills were for all to see during the India-South Africa series.”
R Sridhar also lauded for his extraordinary fielding skills. He feels that Jadeja is the best Indian fielder in recent time.
Sridhar said, “I wouldn’t like to go very far but in the last decade or so Jadeja has been the best fielder India has had.”
