Ravi Shastri Gives His Opinion On ICC Test Championship Points System
The ICC Test Championship points system has drawn some criticism. There are 120 points on offer in a particular series but if the series is shorter, each Test match holds higher points. Meanwhile, India’s head coach Ravi Shastri has had his say on the ICC Test championship points system. Shastri stated that he would have been happier if there were points for series wins, which is not the case.
However, there are only points for Test match wins. But if a team has already won the series, the final Test match is not a dead rubber as there are points to grab. On the other hand, Indian skipper Virat Kohli had recently suggested that he would have awarded more points for overseas wins in the ongoing competition.Ravi Shastri (Credits: Twitter)
There should have been points for the series win.
“Right now we have a huge lead and that speaks volumes of how we have been consistently good as a team. I’d have been happier if the Test championship cycle had points for series win too. That’s missing. Let’s say if we’re looking at 120 points, 60 for Tests and 60 for winning the series — that would’ve been ideal,” Shastri said in an interview with Times of India.
Meanwhile, India is at the top of the ICC Test Championship points table as they have 240 points under their belt. India has won all the five-Test matches that they have played in the ongoing Championship.India (Credits: Twitter)
The Virat Kohli-led side had defeated West Indies 2-0 in the Carribean. Furthermore, they obliterated South Africa by 3-0 in their own conditions.
Subsequently, India will play two Test matches against Bangladesh in home conditions. Hence, the potent side would like to continue their domination going forward. India will once again begin as overwhelming favorites against Bangladesh.
The Indian team is currently at the numero uno position in the ICC Test rankings. Virat Kohli-led will like to continue their good show going in overseas conditions as well.
