12 Oct 2019
Indian off-spinner Ravichandran Ashwin is set to be retained by Kings XI Punjab (KXIP) in the upcoming edition of the IPL.
Earlier, there were reports of Ashwin being on the termination list of KXIP, as the side was looking to bring in a fresh captain.
However, KXIP co-owner Ness Wadia has confirmed that they have no intention of trading Ashwin out.
Ashwin is an integral part of the team: Wadia
"Ashwin is an integral part of the team and he will continue to remain so. You know the value Ashwin brings to the team. There is no question of letting him go," said Wadia to Sportstar.

Further praising Ashwin, Wadia hailed him as an 'exceptional player', besides mentioning that a player of his caliber has the ability to make a grave impact for the side and is a prime asset.
"He is an exceptional player and is not only an asset for the Indian team, but also for Kings XI Punjab," added Wadia.
Ashwin was eyeing a move to Delhi or Rajasthan
Meanwhile, amidst the reports of him being released by KXIP, there were also reports that the off-spinner was eyeing a move to either of Delhi Capitals (DC) or Rajasthan Royals (RR).
While Delhi adviser Sourav Ganguly had expressed interest in having Ashwin's services, Rajasthan were eyeing a swap for Ashwin, along with Krishnappa Gowtham.
Ashwin failed to lead KXIP to playoffs
Ashwin at KXIP
Ashwin, who was roped in for Rs. 7.6 crores prior to IPL 2018, has been their skipper since 2018.
As far as his performance at KXIP goes, he has played 28 matches, claiming 25 wickets at a poor average of 32.40, while he also managed to score 144 runs.
However, he notably failed to lead the side to the playoffs so far.
Should KXIP retain Ashwin?
Taking into consideration Ashwin's IPL performance to date, he has played 139 matches, claiming 125 wickets at an average of 26.47.
While he might be having a good time with the ball in the ongoing Test series at home, his performance in T20, especially IPL, speaks for himself.
Thus, KXIP could still consider a better option, as per the author.
