Rishabh Pant Needs To Bat At A Position Where He Is Not Left In Two Minds – Zaheer Khan
Where should Rishabh Pant bat – at number four or number five? This question has been in the limelight in the last one month. The team management has backed Pant to bat at number four but he hasn’t been able to deliver the goods. However, former Indian paceman Zaheer Khan believes Rishabh Pant should bat at a position where he is not left in two minds.
In fact, it is noted that Pant is having double thoughts about his decision making. The southpaw batsman has an aggressive style of play but he has adopted a sedate approach since he has been criticized for his shot-making. Pant is a batsman who likes to hit the ground running but if he comes out to bat at number four, he doesn’t have the license to go all guns blazing.
Rishabh Pant needs to play according to match situations.
Thus, there are double thoughts in his game which is hampering his form. In fact, most of the experts believe Pant is more suited to number five position where he can add the finishing touches to the innings. Consequently, should bat at number four.
“The team management should try and use him where you get the best out of him. I think his natural style is to attack. So he needs to be used where he is not left in two minds, where he knows the only thing he needs to do is the attack. If he is used in such situations, it would be good for him,” Zaheer Khan told India Today.
Zaheer Khan believes Pant will get better with experience as he is only 21-year old. Pant has lacked the temperament but he is going to be fine when he will play more matches. The left-hander needs to master the art of playing according to match situations.
With time, he will have a better understanding of his game. Everyone knows the ability this player has. I think everyone has to try and make things easier for him,” says the former India pacer.
Rishabh Pant has been under the scanner and he would like to turn the tables in the upcoming Test series against South Africa. The first Test match will take place at Vishakhapatnam from October 2.
