Rohit Sharma's glorious show with the bat in his new avatar in the Test cricket, as an opener, continued in the 2nd innings of India as the swashbuckling bastman added another feather to his cap after he came out to open on Day 4 of the 1st Test against South Africa in Vizag on Saturday.

After launching Dane Peidt for a massive six-his third of the innings and ninth of the match--in the 20th over of India's second innings Rohit Sharma became the batsman to hit most number of sixes in a Test match for India. The record was earlier help by Navjot Singh Sidhu who had hit 8 sixes at Lucknow in 1994.

With his 9th six in Vizag, Rohit Sharma now holds the record to his most number of sixes in a match in all the three formats of the game.

For his new role in the red-ball cricket, Rohit Sharma was the biggest talking point ahead of the first Test in Vizag. However, with his phenomenal 176 in the first innings in his debut outing as Test opener, Rohit had put many of those doubts to rest.

After becoming the fourth Indian batsman to score a century in his maiden innings as an opener in Test cricket, Rohit Sharma went on to score half-century in the second innings of the Test to break Rahul Dravid's record.

With his 12th fifty in Test cricket, Rohit Sharma also surpassed Rahul Dravid's record for most number of consecutive fifty-plus scores in Tests at home. Dravid had hit 6 successive fifty-plus scores between 1997 and 1998.
