MUMBAI: The newly-elected Apex Council of the Mumbai Cricket Association (MCA), headed by Vijay Patil, has got down to work straightaway. Its first assignment involves meeting batting legend Sachin Tendulkar at the MCA’s facility in BKC on Thursday (October 10).

“Tendulkar has always been passionate about Mumbai cricket. He wants to meet the new council and give a few important cricketing suggestions. Subsequently, the new council plans to meet other cricketing greats of Mumbai,” a source in the MCA told TOI on Monday.

Just after the election, MCA’s new secretary Sanjay Naik had said that he wanted to seek Tendulkar’s guidance on Mumbai cricket.

“The world wants to take the Bharat Ratna’s advice. He’s so proud of Mumbai and MCA. I would prefer to take his advice all the time, wherever he’s in the world, to take our cricket ahead,” Naik had said.

With former inter national cricketers being allowed to vote for the first time, Tendulkar had voted in the MCA’s elections which took place last Friday.

In March this year, Tendulkar had met NCP supremo Sharad Pawar at the latter’s residence. He wasn’t too pleased when Mumbai’s entire senior selection committee, led by former India pacer Ajit Agarkar, was under pressure from a few members in the MCA. Agarkar & Co eventually resigned en masse amid pressure from the members to sack them from the MCA.
