Shakib Al Hasan Likely Not To Face Legal Action From BCB
is likely not going to take any legal action against the all-rounder Shakib Al Hasan for becoming the brand ambassador of Grameenphone.
Grameenphone is the leading telecommunications service provider in Bangladesh. Meanwhile, Robi is another top telecommunications service provider in Bangladesh. So, Grameenphone and Robi are direct competitors and Robi is the national cricket team sponsor.
According to the BCB central contract clause, Bangladesh cricketers can’t promote the competitors of the team’s sponsors. So, Shakib violated BCB central contract clause by becoming the brand ambassador of Grameenphone.
On 22nd October, Grameenphone announced that the Bangladesh all-rounder Shakib Al Hasan is their new brand ambassador.
The BCB President, , has recently gone very angry after knowing this contract-violating signing. Nazmul Hasan has also clarified that they have given a showcause notice to the Bangladesh all-rounder. He has even threatened to take legal action if Shakib can’t provide any satisfactory answer.
Hassan said, “We are going into legal action, we cannot spare anyone in this regard. We will ask for compensation. We will seek compensation from the company as well as from the player.
“Robi [Telecom] was our title sponsor and Grameenphone did not bid and instead they grabbed few cricketers by paying them TK One or Two Crores. What happened in the end? The board lost TK 90 Crores in three years.”
Shakib Al Hasan certainly has to explain why he signed an endorsement deal
However, BCB CEO Nizamuddin Chowdhury has given a slightly different but important view on this. As it was an internal matter, they are likely not going to take any legal action against Shakib. But Chowdhury has further added that Shakib still has to give the proper answer to the showcause notice. Shakib’s explanation on this matter is still pending.
Chowdhury recently claimed, “It’s an internal matter of the board and that’s why there is no need to take any legal action against Shakib. However, he certainly has to explain why he signed an endorsement deal which is in violation of central contract.”
The 32-year-old Shakib Al Hasan is currently the no.1-ranked ODI all-rounder, no.2-ranked T20I all-rounder and no.3-ranked Test all-rounder.
