Rishabh Pant has failed to live upto the expectations after he emerged as the first-choice wicket-keeper batsman of Team India after MS Dhoni made himself unavailable. His poor outings have raised speculations over his place in the playing XI. But teammate and swashbuckling opener Shikhar Dhawan has come to the rescue of the underfire cricketer.

In the aftermath of the World Cup, Pant is being touted as the number 4 batsman for the Men in Blues in the shorter formats. It is a position, which requires a lot of experience in handling the things as per the need of the hour. But the Delhi-born cricketer has failed to deliver scoring only one half-century so far against West Indies and South Africa.

There has been a popular perception to drop Rishabh Pant from the squad and give chance to Sanju Samson and Ishan Kishan. Both the young cricketers are making some good noises in the domestic cricket and deserve an opportunity in the playing XI.

But Shikhar Dhawan has come in support of the youngster from Delhi. The southpaw said that Rishabh Pant is an exciting talent and will have a long career with the Men in Blues. Dhawan is also hopeful that Pant will learn from it and come out stronger in the matches to follow.

“Rishabh is very talented and I am sure he will have a long career for India. He is trying hard. There are situations when you don’t score, but then you learn from them. It happens with everyone and I’m sure he will learn from it,” Dhawan said.

Furthermore, Shikhar Dhawan stated that the management needs to back the wicket-keeper batsman to help him regain form. The senior cricket also drew experiences from his life saying that this is a part and parcel of cricketer’s life. Dhawan is hopeful that Rishabh Pant will hit the strides soon.

He (Pant) is a good player and we need to back good players. Even I went through rough patches in my life, and I still do. It is part and parcel of this game,” Dhawan concluded.
