Shikhar Dhawan on verge of joining Rohit Sharma, Virat Kohli, Suresh Raina in elite T20 list
Indian opener Shikhar Dhawan will be eyeing a massive record when he takes to the field at the Vidarbha Cricket Association Stadium in Nagpur on Sunday for the T20I series decider against Bangladesh. Dhawan would be looking to join an elite list of players including the likes of Rohit Sharma, Virat Kohli and Suresh Raina. The southpaw needs 75 runs to complete 6000 T20 runs on Indian soil and become only the fourth player to achieve the milestone.
Rohit joined the likes of Raina and Kohli to complete 6000 T20 runs on Indian soil with his match-winning knock of 85 off 43 deliveries against Bangladesh in the 2nd T20I at the Saurashtra Cricket Association in Rajkot. Both Raina and Kohli had achieved the feat during the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2019 while playing for their respective franchises – Chennai Super Kings and Royal Challengers Bangalore.
Dhawan has been enjoying a bright run of form in the ongoing series against the Bangla Tigers. While his strike-rate has come under scrutiny, Dhawan has made sure he score some crucial runs with the willow. Dhawan is the second leading run-scorer, behind Rohit Sharma (94), in the ongoing series with 72 runs in two matches. The swashbuckling opener has averaged 36 in the series while scoring his runs at a strike-rate of 104.35.
Talking about the series decider, India would look to win the match in Nagpur after equalising the three-match series in Rajkot. While Bangladesh started the series with a thumping seven-wicket in New Delhi, the Men in Blue fought back with a resounding eight-wicket in the second match of the series.
In the first match, Dhawan played a handy knock of 41 runs of 42-ball as he witnessed the Indian batting line-up fall like a pack of cards. In the second match, Dhawan scored a 27-ball 31 while Rohit took the role of an aggressor.
