Sourav Ganguly's Special Blazer On The Day He Becomes BCCI President
Sourav Ganguly took over as the President of the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) on Wendesday morning duing a General body meeting of the Indian cricket's administrative body. After attending a number of meetings, Ganguly held a press conference where he answered a number of questions on his plans and proceedings. Ganguly will be the 39th President of and his tenure is scheduled to be of nine months.
Ganguly wore a special blue jacket on his first day when asked about it, he said, "I wore this jacket when i was selected as a captain of India so I decided to wear it today but I did not realize that it is so loose."
Ganguly was also asked if this job was a challenge, considering all that had been going on at BCCI. Dada, as he is commonly known, said that it was more of an honour and that he will be work towards getting things straight in the organization. He said, "It is an honor to be asked to take up the role by the members when it is a new start for the BCCI. Co-incidentally, fortunately, or unfortunately, even when I became the captain, it was a similar sort of situation when I captain India for six years. This is a similar sort of a situation where things need to be brought back in place and reforms need to be done and huge amounts of money to be paid to State associations so it's a completely new start. So form that point of view I find myself very fortunate to be in a position where I can make a change, and it's a challenge and I'll do it the way I know and I'll do it the way I feel is best for BCCI with no compromise on credibility, corruption free and a same-for-all BCCI. That's the way I lead India and that's the way I will take forward this organization with whatever time I have."
Ganguly also spoke about how the young team at the helm of the BCCI and the work that they will have to do.
He said, "It's a very young group with Jay as Joint secretary and Arun as treasurer. and Jay Shah as the Secretary. It's a young team so we will have to do a lot of hard work. to understand every matter. We don't know what happened in the last three years because we were not a part of it. There were no AGMs, no Working Committee meetings there were no committee meetings so we have no idea how it happened the last year so well make a note of everything and then do what is best for the BCCOI and Indian cricket. We all must understand that we are here to work for Indian cricket and that is the job of the BCCI. The game on the field the International cricket, domestic cricket, IPL cricket and we will do that to the best of the abilities."
Ganguly has had a healthy experience of managing the administration side of cricket since he has already been the President of the Cricket Association of Bengal and also been a part of BCCI's 3 member Cricket Advisory Committee with Sachin Tendulkar and VVS Laxman. He is the first cricketer in 65 years to head the organisation.
