KOLKATA: Sourav Ganguly will represent the Cricket Association of Bengal (CAB) in the upcoming BCCI annual general meeting scheduled on October 23. Ganguly's name was passed in the association's AGM that was held after five years here on Saturday where the former India skipper assumed office of CAB's president for the second time along with five-member officer-bearers and 11 Councillors who were elected uncontested

However, strangely a number former office-bearers who had completed nine years in office and/or aged 70 years and above and should have been disqualified by the Supreme Court order, attended the meeting as representatives of different affiliated units. Even electoral officer Sushanta Ranjan Upadhaya allowed Subrata Mukherjee, Minister of Panchayats and Rural Development and Water Investigation and Development in the Government of West Bengal to attend the AGM.

The Apex Council was also formed with Ganguly's brother Snehasish Ganguly being nominated as an ex-player member along with former Indian women cricketer Gargi Banerjee.

Former chief justice of the Allahabad High Court Justice (retd) Shyamal Sen was appointed CAB's Ombudsman while Justice (retd) Aloke Chakravati was appointed the ethics officer.

The house also decided to enroll special members who will get tickets for all matches being held at the Eden Gardens for a period of five years on payment of Rs 2.5 lakh per year. The total such members to be admitted will be 1800.

"It will be easier operating this time," Ganguly said coming out of the meeting. "For the last few years we did not have full office-bearers due to different legal issues. It was difficult to run such a huge association with so few people," he stated.

However, Ganguly is not worried about leaving the office after 10 months as he will have to go for a mandatory three-year cooling off period. "Ten months is enough to do your work," he said. Asked what is his plan after that, he summed up in a single sentence: "I go and perhaps do other things."
