CHANDIGARH: The sports cell of BJP in Haryana on Friday hailed the state government’s move of appointing Indian cricketing legend Kapil Dev as the first chancellor of Haryana Sports University at Rai village near Sonipat.
Former Test cricketer and convener of sports cell of BJP Haryana, Chetan Sharma, along with international wrestler Babita Phogat, president of Haryana gymnastics and football association Suraj Pal Ammu and cricket coach Sanjay Bhardwaj said this move has marked a new era in the sporting world.
While appreciating the increasing sports budget for the state and allocation of prize money to athletes, Chetan Sharma said various new projects are underway which includes world-class cricket stadium at Jhajjar and a state-of-the-art stadium in Ambala. Sharma said the provisions for state's sports budget now touches Rs 400-crore mark and has created a sporting environment across the 22 districts of the state.
Suraj Pal Ammu, while advocating the party tickets for players for the upcoming assembly elections, said he had taken up this matter with chief minister Manohar Lal Khattar and party president Subhash Barala.
Babita Phogat said players from the state after bringing laurels for the nation are now all set to serve the public and shouldn't be deprived of this opportunity. Dronacharya awardee and noted cricket coach Sanjay Bhardwaj, while comparing the sports structures and policies between Delhi and Haryana, said national capital doesn't have regular coaches. Academies are surviving on part-time coaches and it discourages the morale of players and coaches.
