Discarded batsman Suresh Raina still harbours the dream of playing for Team India and hopes to solve their middle-order woes keeping in mind two back-to-back World T20’s in view. The Men in Blues have struggled with the middle-order for quite some time now in the limited-overs.

India have tried and tested many options for the no four position but no one showed the consistency to cement the place. They suffered badly due to a wobbly middle-order as few early wickets at the top resulted in a collapse.

However, Shreyas Iyer showed the technique and determination to be successful in that position against West Indies and South Africa. He batted with confidence and shouldered the responsibility to lift the batting order. As Iyer strives to show consistency, Suresh Raina has raised claims to solve the problem as he eyes to return to the set-up.

Raina, who last played against England in 2018, is eyeing a comeback to the national side with two T20 World Cups in successive years, 2020 and 2021. The southpaw, who has batted in that position earlier is confident of delivering goods for the side.

“I can be the No. 4 for India. I have batted in that slot before and delivered. I am looking forward to an opportunity with two T20 World Cups coming up,” Raina told The Hindu on Thursday.

Rishabh Pant, who has batted at four since the World Cup, has failed to step up and put runs on the board. Suresh Raina feels someone needs to sit with the young cricketer and have a chat with him as he looks a bit confused.

“He appears confused, is not playing his natural game. He is looking for singles, blocking, and appears lost,” said the southpaw. “Someone needs to talk to him as M.S. Dhoni would do to players. Cricket is a mental game and Pant has to be backed to play his attacking brand of cricket. Right now he seems to be playing under instructions and it is not working,” Raina concluded.
