A match-winning knock from Mushfiqur Rahim saw Bangladesh take victory over India by seven wickets and go 1-0 up in the three-match series. The visitors went home convincingly while chasing a target of 149 runs set by the host.

Having been put in to bat first, India lost their first wicket inside an over. Rohit Sharma (9) struck a pair of boundaries, and in so doing became the all-time leading T20I run-scorer, overtaking compatriot Virat Kohli, before Shafiul Islam (2/36) trapped him in front.

Bangladesh kept coming back with consistent wickets to keep the Indian batsmen at bay. But a responsible 42-run knock from Shikhar Dhawan followed by late blitzes from Krunal Pandya and Washington Sundar helped India post a challenging total on the board.

The Bangladesh innings initially followed a similar pattern, with Liton Das departing in the first over for 8. But debutant Mohammad Naim and Soumya Sarkar set the platform putting 54 for two in eight overs before Mushfiqur Rahim joined the party.

Sarkar and Mushfiqur then struggled to keep up with the rate, and when the former was dismissed by a Khaleel Ahmed (1/37) slower ball, the visitors needed 35 runs from the last three overs. But the 18th over saw Bangladesh break the shackles before taking 18 runs off the penultimate over to set the tone for the win. Mahmudullah finished the proceedings with a six off debutant Shivam Dube.

Meanwhile, soon after Bangladesh’s victory, the fans trolled Virender Sehwag for calling out on the visitors for not winning a single T20I match against India. In a recent advertisement for Star Sports, he was seen taking a sly dig at the Bangladesh side for losing consecutively against the Men in Blues in the past.
