Ever since Mohammad Irfan has come up with an outrageous claim of ending legendary Indian batsman Gautam Gambhir's international career, the out-of-favour Pakstan speed merchant has become the talk of the town and is getting bashed by the internet warriors for his surreal statement. Known for his intimidating stature, Irfan shocked Twitterati by declaring that it was he who put an end to Gambhir's white-ball career in the gentlemen's game.

In an interview, the former Pakistani pacer said that the Indian southpaw was afraid of him when he used to spearhead the Pakistani bowling proceedings. Irfan added that Gambhir's career ended after he was clean bowled by him 2012. The former Indian opener was dismissed on four separate occasions by the Pakistani pacer during the 2012 limited-overs series between India and Pakistan.

"Gautam Gambhir was afraid of me. I think his career ended because of me," Irfan said in the interview. "He (Gambhir) didn't like to face me in match or when both teams had nets. I always felt he avoided eye-to-eye contact with me. I remember I got him out four times in the 2012 series and he was unnerved against me," Irfan added.

The internet was baffled by the bizarre remark that was made by a cricketer who himself witnessed a premature end to a much promising career. While some pointed out his brief stay on the international circuit, others said former Pakistan captain Shahid Afridi laughed out loud on the sensational claims. The left-arm pacer had made his ODI debut against England nine years ago and last represented the Green Army on the international circuit in 2016. Irfan has played only four Tests, 60 ODIs and 20 T20Is for Pakistan.

In the three-match ODI series between the two arch-rivals, Gambhir was given out twice courtesy Irfan which ironically turned out his last T20I series for the Men In Blue at the time. In the aftermath of the southpaw's disappointing form against Irfan, Gambhir only managed to feature in one ODI for India before getting dropped from the squad.
