Very Happy I Don’t Have To Play Test Matches Against Steve Smith – Dale Steyn
Following his one-year ban period which ended in the last week of March, Smith returned to the national side for World Cup 2019 but created a real impact during Ashes, where he scored 774 runs from seven innings at a Bradman-Esque average of 110.57. Following an incredible run, South Africa’s legend Dale Steyn showers words of praise on the youngster.
The right-handed batsman smashed all the records on his way to help Australia achieve massive success. After a long time, the visiting team retained the Ashes Urn, which witnessed the redemption of Steve Smith. The stellar show made Smith retain his position at the top of the ICC Test Rankings with Kohli sitting behind him.
They really confuse bowlers – Dale Steyn
Speaking of Steve Smith’s technique, Dale Steyn expressed his happiness for not having to play against Smith any more in the longer version of the game. Steyn quoted that he always found it difficult to bowl such a batsmen, as they confuse the line and lengths of the bowler. He also mentioned Shivnarine Chanderpaul, who got similar stands of Smith.Dale Steyn. Getty Images
“When I bowled to batters like Michael Vaughan or Jacques Kallis who (were) classical, technically perfect, sound batters, I always found that I could get them out,” Steyn said. It was only the weird guys that came around, like Shiv Chanderpaul and Steve Smith, they really confuse you about the line you should be bowling. Whether that should be on the stumps (or) outside the stumps.
Weird technique worked for Steve Smith:
Further, the flamboyant cricketer quoted that Steve Smith has developed his own technique, which is working beautifully. Besides that Dale Steyn is happy that weird technique worked him and hailed Smith for his great eye contact with the ball.
“Steve has come … and with his technique that he’s naturally developed, he’s just confusing bowlers left, right and center. They literally don’t know where to bowl to this guy. And while they’re trying to work that out, he’s clubbing them all over the place and scoring runs at the same time.”Steve Smith (Credits – Twitter)
“He’s just in a league of his own right now and I’m very happy that I don’t have to play Test matches against him ever again. He’s wonderful, he’s got a great eye and a very difficult and weird technique to work out, which is working for him beautifully.”
Following his heroics in Ashes series, Steve Smith has been named in the T20I squad for the upcoming series against Pakistan. It would be interesting to see how he adjust to the conditions.
