Vijay Hazare Trophy: Rained off matches to be rescheduled
BENGALURU: Done in by bad weather this season, the first few matches of the Vijay Hazare Trophy will be rescheduled.
Of the 30 matches scheduled until Thursday across four venues - Bengaluru, Jaipur, Vadodara and Dehradun - 17 were abandoned due inclement weather, with overnight rain being the biggest concern.
The cricket board (BCCI) has decided to hold these matches on the two rest days on October 2 and 8, keeping the teams' interest in mind. The league stage could also be extended by a couple of days from its October 16 finish.
A meeting of team managers (Group A) was held here on Thursday evening to discuss the feasibility of a reworked menu. The knockouts are scheduled to be held from October 20-25 in Bengaluru.
Matches in Group A and B in Bengaluru and Vadodara have been the worst affected. In fact, defending champions Mumbai - in Group A, (Bengaluru) - are yet to get match time after both their ties were called off without a ball being bowled. Fixtures in Vadodara were abandoned for the third day running.
In Bengaluru, Karnataka-Jharkhand match was the only one to begin on schedule on Thursday while the other two were truncated contests.
