Virat Kohli Overtakes Mohammad Azharuddin Following A 3-0 Whitewash
For the past few days, Virat Kohli has been on the headlines mostly for breaking records as the skipper of the team. The consistent run in the longer version of the game helped Virat Kohli to bag yet another illustrious record to his name by surpassing the former skipper of India Mohammad Azharuddin in the elite list.
They completed their dominance and brought a rather quick end to South Africa’s misery by wrapping up the third and final Test in just over three days. It took India only 12 balls on Day 4 to wrap up the series and walk home with a clean sweep.

The highlight of the match was Rohit Sharma who made 212, his first-ever Test double hundred. Mohammed Shami was the pick of the bowlers in the second innings with 3/10. India have not lost a Test series at home since 2012 when they lost 2-1 to England
With the win, Virat Kohli surpassed Mohammed Azharuddin to become the India captain to lead the team to most no. of series whitewashes in Tests (minimum 3 matches). Before this, Virat Kohli’s men had whitewashed New Zealand (3-0) in a home series in 2016 and Sri Lanka (3-0) in an away series in 2017. India had whitewashed England (3-0) in 1993 and Sri Lanka (3-0) in 1994, with Azharuddin at the helm of affairs in two home series. Under MS Dhoni, India managed to whitewash only one opponent.
On the other hand, South Africa skipper Faf du Plessis became the only South African captain to have lost consecutive Test series in India. The last time South Africa toured India in 2015. They were whitewashed than and now, whitewashed again.
