Virat Kohli reveals why Kuldeep Yadav and Yuzvendra Chahal were left out of South Africa T20Is
Yuzvendra Chahal and Kuldeep Yadav came into the scene together following India's disastrous 2017 Champions Trophy final. Replacing Ravichandran Ashwin and Ravindra Jadeja, the duo did emphatically well to cement their spots till the 2019 World Cup. While many were left bewildered with their inclusion, the same section has now been left clueless on not seeing the team management giving a run to the duo in the shortest format.
Following the World Cup in England and Wales, it is clear that Team India want to bolster their lower batting order and try out a new combination in the spin department; keeping Chahal and Yadav out of the line-up. Ahead of India's home season, which commences with a three-match T20Is versus South Africa, skipper Virat Kohli revealed why the team management have opted to keep KulCha (Kuldeep and Chahal) out of the scenario from T20Is.
Kohli told reporters, "That was one of the reasons also to give opportunities to the guys who have done well in the domestic format and the T20 format and in the IPL also. So I think it's about finding the best balance that we can as a side and not necessarily stick to one kind of combination. If all teams across the world are batting till No. 9, 10, why can't we?
So, you need to take those calls at one stage. Bringing those guys (Chahal and Kuldeep) at one stage was also not taken well by people. Look, whatever decisions are made, are to make sure that the team has the best and strongest balance that we can have approaching the T20 World Cup that we have next year," highlighted the 30-year-old who got a stand named after him in the Arun Jaitley Stadium, New Delhi on Thursday (September 12).
In India's tour of West Indies, Chahal was a part of the ODIs whereas Kuldeep was in the Test squad, who failed to get a game. Prior to that, the two weren't a force to reckon with collectively in the showpiece event in England and Wales. While Chahal ended with 12 wickets and was in the top 20 of the highest wicket-takers' list, Kuldeep claimed only six wickets in seven outings in the World Cup.
With India shifting their focus towards spin all-rounders Krunal Pandya and Washington Sundar to add depth to the batting line-up, it seems KulCha will have to wait for their chance in T20Is.
