Virat Kohli Turns 31: King Kohli's Best Achievements As Captain
Over the years, Virat Kohli has established himself as one of the greatest batsmen of all-time with his astute leadership. The man who has 21,000 runs in international cricket has turned 31 today. He has also had an impressive run as the skipper of the Indian cricket team after he took over from the legendary MS Dhoni in 2014. On the occasion of his birthday, let us take a look at five of Virat's captaincy records.
India's best Test captain
Virat Kohli is arguably the best captain India has ever had in Test cricket. Kohli now has 31 victories in the 51 Test matches he has led the country in. 10 of the remaining matches came in losses and 10 matches were drawn. The previous record was held by MS Dhoni with his 27 wins in 60 matches.
Third best-performing Test Captain of all-time
Virat Kohli, with his 31 wins, is third on the list of all-time victories by a Test skipper who has played more than 50 matches as skipper. He follows legendary Australian skippers - Steve Waugh (41 wins in 57 matches) and Ricky Ponting (48 wins in 77 matches).
Most whitewashes by an Indian skipper
Virat Kohli holds for the most number of Test cricket whitewashes as captain. With the whitewash of South Africa in October, Kohli's tally of whitewashes increased to three. The other two came against Sri Lanka in 2017 and New Zealand in 2016.
Helped India achieve a world record 11-consecutive home series wins
After defeating South Africa, India got its 11th consecutive victory in a home series. This is a record which Kohli has majorly contributed to. The Indian side has not lost a single home series since February 2013. They're followed by Australia who could only go as far as ten consecutive home series wins, twice, in the last two decades.
Highest percentage of team runs scored by any captain
Kohli has captained the Indian team for 51 Tests and has scored 18.67% runs of all the runs Team India has scored. This is the highest percentage in the elite club of 17 Test captains who have captained their nations for more than 50 Test matches.
