Watch – Alex Carey Pulls Off A Stunning Catch To Dismiss Matt Renshaw
Australia’s wicketkeeper-batsman Alex Carey has had a stunning season. Carey had impressed with the bat in his maiden World Cup for Australia. The southpaw batsman had scored 375 runs in nine matches at a staggering average of 62.50. Furthermore, Carey had impressed behind the wickets with his glovework.
Carey had added the finishing touches for the Australian team in the ODI showpiece and he was able to hit the ground running. The wicketkeeper-batsman has carried the same confidence in the ongoing Sheffield Shield.
Carey has been brilliant.
In the match between Queensland and South Australia, Carey came up with a fine catch to dismiss Matt Renshaw. South Australia’s fast bowler Wes Agar bowled an innocuous delivery down the leg side and Renshaw got an inside edge.
Carey was quick to move down the leg side and took a stunning catch to dismiss Renshaw on 18 runs. Wes Agar was also able to scalp the wickets of Joe Burns and Usman. Agar plumbed both the batsmen in front of the wickets.
On the other hand, South Australia scored 221 runs in the first innings after winning the toss and electing to bat first. Tom Andrews top-scored for South Australia as he scored 78 runs whereas Tom Cooper scored a fine knock of 71 runs.
However, Alex Carey could not get a big score as he was dismissed by Marnus Labuschagne. Queensland fast bowler Michael Neser continued his good form as he took a five-wicket haul. Cameron Gannon and Mark Steketee scalped two wickets each whereas Marnus Labuschagne took one wicket.
Meanwhile, Queensland is at 70-1 at the end of day one. Marnus Labuschagne and Charlie Hemphrey will resume batting on the second day. Queensland still trails by 151 runs at the Gabba, Brisbane.
