Sunday was a special day for David Warner when Australia locked horns with Sri Lanka in the first of the three T20Is. The Australia opener was not only celebrating his 33rd birthday but the game was also his first international game at home after he served the one-year ban. And David Warner made the occasion even more special by scoring his first T20I hundred.

The southpaw, who had a disastrous outing in the Ashes, looked in fine form as he tore apart Sri Lankan bowling. David Warner reached his hundred on the very final ball of the innings and remained unbeaten on exactly hundred off 56 balls. The stunning hundred was studded with 10 fours and a four sixes.

David Warner’s century and fifties from Aaron Finch and Glenn Maxwell helped Australia put up a mammoth total of 233 for 2 in the allotted overs. Australia went on to Sri Lanka by 134 runs in the series opener in Adelaide. Sri Lanka were poor with the bat too as they ended up with only 99 for 9 to suffer the heavy defeat. Australia claimed their biggest win in T20I cricket, while Sri Lanka sunk to their heaviest defeat.

“It means a lot to contribute to the team and put us in great position. It was a good milestone, but got a great total on the board and it’s always tough to chase a big one in Australia. Sometimes it’d be tough with no rotation of strike. One of us had to go hard against the new ball. Pradeep’s skills are excellent, he’s a world class Test player I reckon. You forget how busy the schedule actually is. You always get good support here in Australia. We thrive on people coming and watching us,” said David Warner while taking the Man of the Match award.

And before winning over the fans with his stunning ton, he had come up with a beautiful gesture on the field. While making his way towards the dressing room, the 33-year old gifted his gloves to a child, leaving him and others pleasantly surprised.

Here is a clip of that beautiful gesture from David Warner:
