Watch: Shahbaz Nadeem Leaves Temba Bavuma Clueless To Pick Up His First Test Wicket
The last few days have been absolutely surreal for Shahbaz Nadeem. The left-arm spinner received his maiden Test call-up out of the blue on the eve of the ongoing third Test when Kuldeep Yadav complained of a shoulder pain. Hours later, he earned his maiden Test cap and got the opportunity to play his first international game in front of his home crowd in Ranchi.
And it did not take long for the Jharkhand star to pick up his maiden Test wicket. It was a classic turning delivery that floored Temba Bavuma. Perhaps in an attempt to negate the spin, Bavuma shimmied down the wicket. However, it did not work at all as Shahbaz Nadeem turned the ball brilliantly.Shahbaz Nadeem receiving his debut Test cap from Virat Kohli (Credits: Twitter)
Bavuma tried to defend the ball but it spun at the last moment and Wriddhiman Saha did the rest. Bavuma tried his best to drag his bat back inside the crease but he was nowhere close to getting a reprieve as Saha took the bails off in a flash.
Bavuma’s dismissal, meanwhile once again put India on top. Starting the day on 9 for 2, South Africa lost their skipper Faf du Plessis cheaply to find themselves reeling at 16 for 3. However, Zubayr Hamza and Bavuma stopped the rot and took the score past the 100-run mark. During the stand, Hamza also completed his fifty.
Ravindra Jadeja broke the stand when he castled Hamza for 62. And South Africa could not even add a single run before Shahbaz Nadeem accounted for Bavuma. Earlier in the match, India declared their innings on 497 for 9. Rohit Sharma scored a double century while Ajinkya Rahane and Ravindra Jadeja scored century and half-century respectively.
