We Will Support Virat Kohli In Every Possible Way: BCCI President Sourav Ganguly
“I will speak to him (Virat Kohli) tomorrow. He is the captain of India. He is the most important man in Indian cricket. We will support him in every possible way,” he said.
Team selection and MS Dhoni’s future are expected to highlight the Kohli-Gaguly meet which takes place tomorrow. The Indian selection panel led by MSK Prasad will name the squad for Bangladesh series tomorrow and it is expected that Kohli might be rested. It is already confirmed that Dhoni will not be part of the team.
Apart from that, the duo might also discuss Kohli’s recent views on Test venues in India. The Indian skipper, after series-win over South Africa in Ranchi, had said that India should have five Test venues which should host the matches.
It came in wake of poor attendance at venues. Of late, BCCI has been organising Test matches in smaller cities but hasn’t been able to attract audience.
In the three-match Test series against South Africa, stands largely remained empty even as the prices of the tickets were quite low.
Another talking point could be loopholes in the Indian team. while Ganguly cannot have a direct say in team selection, his inputs could be heard by selectors and captain himself.
Since 2017, India have not been able to ink on a permanent number four batsman in ODIs. In T20Is, India have just started to give chances to youngsters. Earlier, India’s ODI and T20I squads were largely similar.
Ganguly will be BCCI’s President till September 2020 but will have to relinquish his position after that to serve the cooling-ff period.
