What new BCCI President Sourav Ganguly said about Virat Kohli, MS Dhoni, Mohammed Azharuddin and Anshuman Gaekwad
Former India captain Sourav Ganguly on Wednesday took over as the new president of the Board of Control for Cricket in India, also known as the Indian cricket board. Speaking for the first time after his formal appointment, Ganguly said that he hoped to see more former cricketers into running the administration.
Citing examples of newly elected President of Hyderabad Cricket Association, Mohammed Azharuddin, and Anshuman Gaekwad, who was recently elected as the ICA’s Male Representative to BCCI Apex Council.
Asked if he had spoken to the Indian cricket captain Virat Kohli, Ganguly said, “I will speak to him (Virat Kohli) tomorrow. He is the captain of India. He is the most important man in Indian cricket. We will support him in every possible way.” Ganguly promised to extend all help to Kohli for him to be able to continue to lead India to victories.
He said that Virat Kohli was the most important man in Indian cricket and he will speak with him to support him in every possible way. “He’s the most important man in Indian cricket as captain of India. I look at it that way. We will have a word with him and as I said, we will support him in every possible way. He wants to make this team the best in the world,” Ganguly said.
On Mahendra Singh Dhoni, the newly elected BCCI president said that India was proud to have Dhoni adding that ‘everyone will be respected.’ Ganguly said that ‘Champions don’t finish quickly.” He added, “I don’t know what’s on his mind. When I was left out, I prepped and came back to play for four years.
Ganguly said that too many changes in the game were not good.
Ganguly chose to address his first press conference as the BCCI chief by wearing his Team India blazer. He said that the blazer was given to him during his time as the captain of the national team. “I decided to wear it today but didn’t know it’s so loose,” he joked.
