Wriddhiman Saha Talks About His Bond With Rishabh Pant
The youngster Rishabh Pant has lost its place in the national team in the ongoing Test series against South Africa after his degrading performance this year. Wriddhiman Saha has replaced the Delhi lad for the wicketkeeping role. Saha has grabbed the opportunity with an open hand and showed his importance in the Test matches.
Wriddhiman Saha was in a long break because of injuries. After recovering from the injuries, he has to prove himself again so he had to play domestic cricket. His hard work has given him the place back in the Test team. Now, the question arises whether Rishabh Pant will be given place again in the national team soon.
Saha was recently asked about what bound he shared with Pant and did he guide Pant while practising. He said that there is no such atmosphere between both of them. They both practice together and try to understand what will be better for both of them in certain conditions.
“There’s nothing (mentoring) like that. We just discuss normally the way the wicketkeepers discuss. With Sridhar and Pant, we three jointly decide on how to go about our wicketkeeping on a particular type of wicket,” he said.
Whoever plays in the team wants to contribute
If we compare the batting of Rishabh and Wriddhiman then Rishabh has much better batting average than Saha. Saha was asked about his performance as the batsman and he opines that he wants to contribute with his bat. He will try to build a partnership whenever he gets the chance.
“Whoever plays in the team wants to contribute. As a wicketkeeper, I look to get some time in the middle and if I get time I try to build a partnership and score a fifty or so. Everyone tries like that. Sometimes it works, sometimes it does not,” Saha said.
In Ranchi, only one Test match was played which was against Australia and Wriddhiman Saha was the part of that match. He scored a century in that match which was drawn. He has claimed that he has the knowledge of that field and India will surely try to win this Test too.
“I have a good memory of the last match. I made 117 in the last match. I remember how I approached the innings. I also remember the Steve Smith incident. If you see we drew it last time. We are 2-0 up in the series so this time we will try to make it 3-0 this time,” he concluded.
Wriddhiman Saha on his last test match catch
In the second Test match played in Pune ground, Saha was the superstar of the match as he took some unbelievable catches. He took amazing catch on the ball of on the leg side with one hand. He claimed that it felt special when you contribute to the team and it helps the team to win the match.
“Everyone wants to contribute to the team. He (Yadav) did very well in the first innings and created a lot of chances. Luckily, I was able to take the chances he created on the leg side. I always think of helping the team’s cause. It always feels good when you contribute to the team’s winning cause.”
