Over the years, the Indian National Cricket Team always believed in handing captaincy reigns to only one person across the formats. However, MS Dhoni’s retirement in Test cricket saw BCCI splitting captaincy between Dhoni and Virat Kohli. However, after MSD calling curtains, Virat Kohli led the Indian side across the formats.

Recently, after ICC World Cup 2019, there were headlines in the media regarding the split captaincy for the Indian National Cricket Team. However, BCCI denied all the reports citing that Virat Kohli will be leading the side across the formats. Just when things are calming down, Yuvraj Singh raised the usage of split captaincy.

He feels that India should only try split captaincy if Virat Kohli is having workload issues. He believes that giving captaincy to Rohit Sharma would ease things for Virat Kohli, who is leading the team across the formats. Yuvraj Singh believes Rohit Sharma can do the job.

Rohit Sharma has been very successful – Yuvraj Singh

India hasn’t tried out split captaincy but the selectors are keen on rotating and resting top players on a regular basis. In the lead up to the 2019 World Cup, Virat Kohli was rested from quite a few T20I assignments wherein Rohit Sharma led India and found a lot of success.

“Earlier there were only two formats so it was easy for a captain to manage. Now there are 3 formats If the load on Virat is more than maybe they should try somebody else for the shorter formats. Rohit has been very successful,” Yuvraj Singh told Aaj Tak.

“I don’t really know. They have to decide how much workload Virat can take. Do they need to try somebody else for T20? It completely depends on how they want to go for the future. Virat has been the best batsman. How to manage his workload? It is completely team management’s call.”

Well, it would be interesting to see whether BCCI would listen to the idea of Yuvraj Singh. Most probably, Virat Kohli would be leading the side in the upcoming ICC T20I World Cup 2020.
